Heavy rain delayed the start by more than 90 minutes. Max Verstappen started from pole but both Mercedes passed him on the opening lap. He fought back, took the lead from Kimi Antonelli at a Safety Car restart, and won by 2.3 seconds. It was his first win since Abu Dhabi 2025, at the circuit where he was also the last winner back in 2017.
George Russell was running third under the Safety Car on Lap 50 when his engine failed. Lewis Hamilton, who had dropped down the order after a tire call on a chaotic start, came back to pass Isack Hadjar for third with three laps left.
Russell's retirement and Antonelli's second place stretched the lead to 84 points with seven races left.
Verstappen's win confirmed the trend from Austria and Baku. He is now level with Norris on points.
Eighth place was Fernando Alonso's best result of a hard season for Aston Martin.
