What happened

Russell won Saturday's sprint from pole ahead of Norris and Antonelli, then beat Antonelli to Grand Prix pole by less than a tenth. Antonelli jumped ahead at the start, Russell took the lead back on Lap 6, and the two swapped places repeatedly. At one point Mercedes told Antonelli to hand back a position he had gained by cutting the final chicane.

On Lap 30 Russell pulled off from the lead and retired, leaving Antonelli to cruise home. Lewis Hamilton, promoted to third by Russell's exit, then went around the outside of Max Verstappen at Turn 1 on Lap 62 to take second, his best finish yet for Ferrari.

Why it matters

A 43-point swing in the title race

Russell scored eight sprint points and nothing on Sunday. Antonelli's lead grew from 18 points after the sprint to 43 after the Grand Prix.

McLaren's tire gamble backfired

Norris started on intermediates and pitted for slicks after two laps. He recovered to eighth before retiring on Lap 40.

Red Bull's first double top five

Verstappen's third and Isack Hadjar's fifth were Red Bull's best combined result of the season so far.
