What happened

Antonelli started 19th after an engine penalty and was 13th by the end of the first lap. Charles Leclerc crashed at Parabolica on the opening lap, ending his home race and bringing out the red flag. Max Verstappen briefly led on Lap 12 before George Russell took the lead back.

By Lap 18 Antonelli had caught his teammate, and the two swapped the lead for several laps. A Virtual Safety Car on Lap 29 let Antonelli switch to mediums while Russell stayed out on hards, and on Lap 50 Antonelli passed Russell when he ran wide defending.

Why it matters

Lead back up to 66

A Mercedes one-two kept Russell second in the standings, but Antonelli's lead grew.

Ferrari's difficult home weekend

Leclerc's first-lap exit and Hamilton's recovery from 10th to sixth left the tifosi little to cheer.

Last-lap drama at McLaren

Norris took fourth from Piastri with a move into Ascari on the final lap.
